Home for Hebrew study materials

Hebrew with Eden aims to work with students of all levels, from absolute beginners learning to say "Shalom," "Toda," and "Korim li..." to highly advanced students who wish to read fine literature in Hebrew, understand the news on the radio, and integrate into complex conversations in Israel. Every student has their own path, their own pace, and their own strengths and challenges.

One of HWE's most significant collaborations is with Home for Hebrew, the curriculum developed by Maayan Sharet. Full disclosure: Maayan and I worked together many years ago at one of the large Ulpans in Israel. She was my manager, and I later replaced her in the role of pedagogical management, guidance, and training for online Hebrew teachers. Since then, we have remained colleagues and friends, and I honestly recommend everything she does from personal experience.

The Home for Hebrew textbooks accompany our students at all levels, alongside additional materials that my teachers and I integrate: songs, video clips, TV series, journalism, traditional texts, and more. To get to know Maayan and the method a bit more deeply, I asked her to write about Home for Hebrew herself—

Maayan:

After years of teaching Hebrew and working within traditional language programs, I chose to create my own path—driven by a clear gap I saw in existing materials. Most resources fell into two extremes: they were either outdated, overly technical, and disconnected from real-life communication, or they were overly simplistic and childish, leaving adult learners feeling underestimated and unable to express themselves meaningfully.

That’s why I built my own method.

I created Home for Hebrew to offer a smarter, more engaging approach to language learning—one that treats students as thoughtful, capable individuals from day one. My materials are designed to be modern, culturally relevant, and even humorous, helping learners feel confident, expressive, and connected to the language as it is truly spoken today.

Drawing on my background in cinema and literature, along with a deep connection to both Jewish and Buddhist traditions, I bring a thoughtful, personal, and often humorous perspective into the materials—creating an experience that is both culturally rich and engaging, with openness to different ways of thinking and expression.

At the heart of my method is deep immersion. I integrate a wide range of tools and practices to support every aspect of learning—reading, writing, and especially listening. Students engage with interactive exercises, flashcards, and digital platforms like Quizlet, alongside carefully structured lessons.

To bring the language to life even further, I introduced podcasts featuring natural, flowing conversations. These recordings allow learners to hear authentic Hebrew in context, building familiarity, confidence, and a true sense of connection beyond the page.

I believe these materials are best brought to life by enthusiastic and caring teachers. I’m fortunate that Eden and her wonderful team have chosen to teach using Home for Hebrew, infusing the lessons with energy, warmth, and joy, and creating an engaging and supportive learning environment for their students.

Learning with Home for Hebrew is more than studying a language—it’s a full, intelligent, and enjoyable experience that empowers students to express themselves and truly feel at home in Hebrew.
